TERMINOLOGY
Welcome to our Terminology page! Here, you'll find definitions of common printing terms to help you better understand our products and services.
General Printing Terms
Bleed: An extra margin added around your design to ensure the artwork extends to the edge of the printed piece after trimming. For example, a standard 2" x 3.5" business card with a .125-inch bleed should have a file size of 2.125" x 3.625".
Safe Zone: The area inside your design where all important text and images should be placed to avoid being trimmed during production.
Print-Ready PDF: A high-resolution PDF file optimized for printing, ensuring all colors, fonts, and design elements are properly formatted.
CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black): The color model used in printing to achieve full-color designs. Files should be submitted in CMYK format for accurate color reproduction.
Resolution: The level of detail in a design, typically measured in DPI (dots per inch). For high-quality prints, a resolution of 300 DPI is recommended.
Paper Stock
Text Weight: Lightweight paper, typically used for flyers, brochures, or inserts.
Cover Weight: Heavier and sturdier paper, ideal for business cards, postcards, and premium marketing materials.
Uncoated Paper: A smooth, natural finish without any gloss, great for writing or a classic look.
Glossy Paper: A shiny finish that enhances vibrant colors and gives a polished appearance.
Soft Touch: A velvety matte finish that adds a luxurious feel to printed products.
